Circular transition

At Compass Group, we are focusing on how to better utilize resources for longer durations to reduce waste volumes.

Much of our plastic waste comes from packaging, which is why we plan to phase out several plastic products from our production in the future. At the same time, we are exploring solutions for new reusable packaging products with deposit systems.

Implementing circular solutions poses challenges in the food industry, particularly due to stringent requirements for recycling food packaging. This makes it challenging at times to implement ideas that ensure products are recycled without compromising quality in the recycling process.

Development of reusable cup

A special reusable cup has been introduced at several of our educational institution customers. Here, students have the option to choose a washable reusable cup when purchasing to-go drinks.

The reusable cup costs 10 DKK, which students get back when they return it. Additionally, they save 2 DKK when they order coffee served in the reusable cup.

Esben Luplau, Market Manager at Compass Group, discusses the development and implementation of the reusable cup:

“We noticed that educational institutions were looking for an alternative to disposable cups. Therefore, we decided to introduce a cup that can be reused multiple times. It was also a criterion for us that it is produced in Denmark.”
