Recently, colleagues from Compass Group participated in Cycling for Cancer, an event organized by Charity for Cancer, where Compass Group collectively cycled 703 km to raise funds in support of children and relatives affected by cancer. The atmosphere was electric from the first pedal stroke: music pumped, lights flashed, and the cheering squad kept spirits high while riders gave it their all.
Compass Group had rented a bike for 24 hours, which needed to keep moving around the clock. Each participant also raised an amount per kilometer cycled, and together both heart rates and the impact for the cause grew. One of our colleagues alone raised over DKK 14,000 for the charity.
For participants, it was not just about exercise. It was about community, energy, and the joy of making a difference together. Oscar Stark, Business Analyst in our Procurement department, shares:
“People were sweating together, having fun, and pushing through the hard moments together. It creates a very special energy.”
Several riders also pushed themselves further with personal motivation. Jesper Holmberg, Account Director at Compass Group, cycled 56 kilometers in two hours. For him, supporting a cause so close to life was deeply meaningful:
“Having been on the other side myself, it takes on a whole new meaning to be able to give back. I truly realized it after my own experience, and it just feels right to be part of making a difference,” he says.
Compass Group has participated in the event several times, first in 2022, combining exercise, networking, and charity each year. The event featured lively music from well-known DJs, cheering squads, and incredible energy, making both the participants and the cause stronger:
“We all know someone who has been affected by cancer, and that’s exactly why I participate. Far too many people are impacted by this disease, and if I can make a small difference and raise awareness, I gladly do it,” says Nicklas Rantzau Rydeng, Category Manager in Procurement at Compass Group.
Cycling for Cancer boosted both our heart rates and our sense of community. It showed us how small actions can make a big difference for those who need it most.
