Compass Group’s CEO leads the way on Uniform at Work Day

Today, our CEO Thomas Kempf is celebrating 'Uniform at Work Day' alongside other reservists and volunteers in Denmark's defense and emergency services.

Our CEO, Thomas Kempf, is wearing his uniform at work today and leaving his shirt at home.

He is doing this in celebration of Uniform at Work Day, which aims to highlight the many reservists and volunteers in the Armed Forces, Home Guard, Emergency Management Agency, and the Coastal Rescue Service.

A conversation starter

“Are you a cavalryman too?” asks Thomas Lembøl Christensen, Category Manager in our procurement department, when he meets our CEO, Thomas Kempf, this morning at the office.

It turns out they were “former colleagues” many years ago from the same regiment.

From the very start of the day, Thomas Kempf is met with a series of curious questions when other colleagues encounter him in uniform at work.

And this is exactly the kind of dialogue the day aims to open up.

“It’s important to recognize all those who do voluntary work in Denmark, and it’s important to support and create a conversation about what kind of work that is,” says Thomas Kempf.

The extra effort

Thomas himself is part of the Cavalry Regiment, where he is attached to the Total Defense in the Copenhagen district. Here, he supports the training of soldiers and keeps military skills up to date, and he can be called upon to train units.

“I think it’s important to support the reserve force because it’s a voluntary unit that performs a wide range of tasks for society. It can be anything from helping in emergencies to training young recruits. I think it’s an important part of our culture,” he says.

Thomas’ next voluntary task for the Reserve Force is in October, where he will help with a recruit tour.

By marking the day today, we say thank you to all reservists and volunteers who dedicate time and effort alongside their civilian jobs and actively contribute to society.
