Four Key Focus Areas in Our ESG Strategy

Our employees are the driving force behind the change we want to create. Every day, they turn our ambitions into action. Across our services, they help create safe workplaces, well-functioning everyday environments and positive experiences for the people we work for and with. To ensure the best possible conditions for all employees, we focus on four key areas within the social dimension of our ESG strategy:

  • Systematic follow-up on health, safety and wellbeing
  • Training and skills development for both employees and leaders
  • Community, recognition and an inclusive workplace where diversity is valued
  • Strengthening communities and supplier relationships through social responsibility and inclusive partnerships

Education in many forms

We have a continuing education program tailored to various professional needs and career paths – from training chefs to leadership development.

We have a diverse group of nearly 50 trainees, ranging from 18 to 59 years old, and we help our unskilled workers become skilled professionals. Our recruitment approaches are based on partnerships with organizations such as 3F and vocational schools, aiming to support trainees facing challenges in their current apprenticeships.

To ensure that language barriers do not become an obstacle, we offer Danish lessons during working hours to prepare employees for participation in courses and enhance their skill levels.

For our leaders, we offer a range of thematic courses as well as basic leadership training. In the field of cleaning, we provide a specialized leadership program to ensure competent management within this area.

A safe workplace

Everyone in Compass Group has a moral responsibility to protect each other, our customers, our guests, and the environment. Safety First is key in our HSE work.

Our goal is zero harm to people, the environment, and property, as well as to provide a safe, injury-free, and healthy workplace and serve food that is always safe to eat.

Through systematic HSE efforts, we ensure all employees have healthy and safe working conditions.

United for a good cause

Julemærkehjemmene

We have chosen a number of causes that align closely with our values. Julemærkehjemmene is one of them. Joy and well-being are not a given for everyone, but a childhood with a healthy relationship to food and exercise is a good start. This is what the Julemærkefonden fights for daily, and we are proud partners, actively contributing to promoting health, well-being, and happiness for many children. At Compass Group, we have volunteer ambassadors dedicated to optimizing our collaboration, enabling us to raise more funds for the children at Julemærkehjemmene in Denmark.

Glad Fonden

Since 2018, we have partnered with Glad Fonden, an organization that believes people with different abilities are an asset that can make our society richer, happier, and more inspiring. Our goal is always to have several trainees from Glad Fonden working at one of our locations. This mutual learning experience enriches us as a company while also strengthening the trainee’s position in the job market after completing their education.

Junior National Culinary Team

Additionally, we are proud sponsors of the Danish Junior National Culinary Team through our contributions to the Danish Gastronomic Union. We aim to support the pool of talent within the culinary field, ensuring Denmark’s prestigious position as one of the world’s leading food nations. This support also benefits us as a major employer in the culinary industry.

Aarhus has spoken: We serve the city’s Best Breakfast
The restaurant at The Royal Danish Library at Aarhus University has won Århus Stiftstidende’s “Best Breakfast in Aarhus” award. Local residents voted for their favourite, and the title went to our colleagues in the kitchen. For Head Chef Steffen Linding and the rest of the team, the award is a great recognition of their daily efforts to create memorable food experiences for guests. The restaurant is open to the public, and especially on Saturdays, many guests stop by to enjoy its popular brunch. Now, the team can celebrate being named the home of the Best Breakfast in Aarhus.

Five kilometres and a sense of community across Compass Group
Colleagues from near and far turned up in large numbers for the DHL Relay Race Copenhagen on Friday. For some, it meant five kilometres in running shoes, for others a walk, while the rest cheered from the sidelines. What everyone had in common was that the evening provided an opportunity to come together across Compass Group – including with colleagues they do not see every day. After the race, our colleagues in the production kitchen prepared a delicious meal, providing the perfect setting for a cosy end to the evening. Because the DHL Relay Race is not just about crossing the finish line, but about community, great experiences and being one team.

Compass Group takes over catering operations at six campuses of Copenhagen Business Academy
On 24 August, Compass Group opened the doors to new canteens at six of Copenhagen Business Academy’s locations. The three-year partnership aims to develop food and dining experiences while strengthening the canteens as social hubs across the campuses. With a focus on seasonal ingredients, freshness, plant-based options and 60–90% organic produce, Compass Group aims to create an attractive environment for both students and employees. Through initiatives such as Social Dining, themed days and events, the canteens will provide opportunities for people to come together, share experiences and build a stronger sense of community across programmes and professional backgrounds.
