Stop Food Waste Day brings kitchens and guests together in the fight against food waste

Today, Compass Group is globally marking 10 years of Stop Food Waste Day – and the competitive spirit is running high.

Throughout the week, Compass canteens across Denmark are placing extra focus on reducing food waste through our Food Waste Challenge.

The challenge started on Monday and runs until Friday – and although we work every day to minimise food waste, we are stepping up our efforts even further this week.

This means that our canteens and guests are competing to reduce food waste as much as possible throughout the week.

While the kitchens focus on minimising buffet waste, guests are encouraged to be even more mindful of plate waste. The competition is already well underway, and we are excited to see the difference we can make together.

According to sous chef Martin Dupont, who works in one of Compass Group’s canteens, the competition is both fun and important.

“We already place a strong focus on reducing food waste in our daily work, but the Food Waste Challenge helps put even more attention on the efforts we already make. It matters – because it makes no sense to throw away good food, and there is always room for improvement.”

Anne Sofie Hattesen, Head of ESG at Compass Group, believes that serving food to around 100,000 people every day comes with a responsibility.

“What makes the Food Waste Challenge so powerful is that it engages both kitchens and guests around the same goal. When we tackle the challenge together, we can significantly reduce food waste and create greater awareness of how small changes in everyday habits can make a real difference,” says Anne Sofie Hattesen, Head of ESG at Compass Group.

At the end of the week, a winning canteen will be announced. But already on day three, we can reveal how proud we are of the great enthusiasm and commitment shown by both our kitchens and guests.
