“If I can do it, I hope it can give others the courage to think: then I can too.”
This is how our colleague Marta describes it. She works in one of our canteens and has just completed her training as a gastronome with a specialization in smørrebrød and catering, where she was awarded a silver medal for her impressive performance.
Fifteen years ago, Marta was in a very different place. She came to Denmark from Poland and started as a cashier in a canteen. Since then, she has built up experience in the kitchen, and nine years ago she became part of Compass Group, where she has truly developed her craft and strengthened her understanding of ingredients and processes.
Today, she stands as a clear example of what happens when experience is combined with theory through education. It is in that intersection that the craft truly unfolds and where tasks are not only carried out, but also understood.
At Compass Group, we work purposefully to give more employees the opportunity to pursue an education and gain formal recognition of the skills they already have. Education is not only an investment in the individual, but in our entire industry and the society we are part of.
As Thais Brask-Simonsen, People and Culture Partner at Compass Group, says:
“It is important that everyone who can and wants to gets a professional education that ensures a better future. Education creates professional pride and a deeper understanding, because you learn the technical properties of the ingredients you work with.”
The education has not only strengthened Marta’s professional skills, but also given her a strong sense of belonging and belief in herself and her future opportunities:
“Today, I can explain processes, support my colleagues professionally, and document my competencies. I feel stronger and see it as the beginning of a new chapter.”
For us, it is not just about one journey, but about making the path possible for more. When people grow, it raises both the quality in the kitchen and the standard across the entire industry.
